MORGAN HILL HISTORY
Morgan Hill is located within Santa Clara Valley, which prior to the arrival of Spanish colonists, has been inhabited by the Tamien nation of Ohlone people. The Ohlone, formerly known as Costanoans (from Spanish costeño meaning 'coast dweller'), are a Native American people of the Northern California coast.

Morgan’s Cove History tour
Opening late-April through October is a new history tour in Morgan Hill, located at the Morgan’s Cove pirate village. These educational tours trace the history of Morgan Hill and the South SF Bay Area of California from its original inhabitants to the Spanish, rancheros, and later settlers. Guided by a crew member, the tour winds through outdoor, pirate-themed installations, with each stop providing insight into the preservation and history of the area.
Villa Mira Monte HISTORY PARK
Just north of downtown Morgan Hill is Villa Mira Monte, where you may enjoy a docent-led tour. Explore the Hiram Morgan Hill House (1884-86). Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this Queen Anne style country estate was built by the City’s namesake, Hiram Morgan Hill and his wife Diana Murphy Hill, daughter of the pioneering Murphy family. The site also features the Morgan Hill History Museum (1911), and the Centennial History Trail, which highlights 100 local, state and national milestones in history.
Historic Downtown Walking Tours
Join Morgan Hill Historical Society docents on the second Saturday of each month to see the Granary, the Skeels building, the Community Playhouse and other historic sites in downtown Morgan Hill and learn their origin stories. Tours are from 10:00 am to noon. Meet at the Morgan Hill Parking Garage (3rd Street off Monterey Road). No fee, no reservations needed.
